V30s with Weber Pre-rola clones
I have a 4x12 that I'm thinking about mounting a combination of V30s and Weber Pre-rola treatment - I guess you would call them greenback clones - years ago we called them STAN SPECs and I'm 99% sure they are 30w.
Is there any danger in combining the two types of speakers and wiring them together to make one cab with combo combination?
They are all 16 ohm.
I will be running them pretty hard - with a SL, w 4 EL34's possibly with no attenuation.
Risky bidness? Don' want to blow 'em. Thanks for your thoughts...

Celestion V30's are 60watters...
No harm in Ohmage just wattage in the cottage.

Yeah, wouldn't want you to mess with those Stan's especially if they play a part of that killer tone ya' got, Bro.
Yep, those Stan's would be getting more of the punishment before the V30's are left to defend themselves.
I guess in theory; the pair of V30's could run your head with as much punishment as a 4x12 G12M
Less punishment on the back with a 2x12 too.

Re: V30s with Weber Pre-rola clones
to be honest mixing wattages doesn't matter as much as impedances. say if you have a pair of G12m speakers and a pair of G12H speakers 1 being 25 and the other being 30 watts, in the same cab you will still have a 100 watt cab thats how the world of wattage works so long as the speakers have the same efficiency you may not notice as much volume wise.

v30 is one of the loudest speakers - 100db
pre rola - 96 - 97db
pre rola - 96 - 97db

ahh ok i didn't mind specs off top of my head but if you did wire the 2 pairs up in the cab you would still have a 100 watt cab but with the v30s dominating

If you put a 25w and a 60w in series then the power handling is 25w, add the same again and wire both pairs in parallel then you have power handling of 50w.

I'm not sure who told/gave you this information, but it's wrong.
If you put a 25 and 65w in series, the power handling is 50w (2 x the lowest speaker's rated power handling). If you double this (adding a 2nd pair of 25 & 65w speakers in series) you'll have another 50w pair, making it 100w total for both pairs (all four).
If you put two 65w together in series, the power handling is 130w.
If you put two 25w together in series, the power handling is 50w.
You can't add the power handling together in dissimilar speakers (25 & 65w together do not make 90w, it's 50w).

And above assumes all the speakers have the same nominal impedence ; if they don't, the power is not dissipated evenly across them. I've known people to blow up speakers that way- Not me yet, but could have been!

Re: V30s with Weber Pre-rola clones
Jeff is right about the ohms info.
An 8 ohm speaker will draw twice as much current as a 16 ohm speaker. If you mix an 8 and 16 ohm speaker the 8 ohm will get 66.6% of the power, and the 16 ohm will get 33.3%.

Re: V30s with Weber Pre-rola clones
Right, assuming they're connected in parallel. In series it's the opposite. So if you connected, say, two 4 ohm and one 8 ohm speakers, each rated at 25W, all in series to get a 16 ohm load, the rated power handling for this setup would be 50W, not 75W. If you fed the string 75W, the 8 ohm piece would be most vulnerable, having to handle approximately 37.5W.
Jim- I was just enjoying playing through a 12" Scumback this morning.

Jeff, this is why I tell players not to mix and match ohms. Glad to hear your Scumbacks are still holding up and making you smile. I've been reconing a lot of old G12M's and G12H30's lately. I should start taking pics and posting the voice coil/cone/spider failures. Some of it is pretty funny.
