filtering cap question...
Hello.. long time lurker here. I have two identical marshall style amps from a boutique company. In the filtering section there are two 140uf caps and two 33uf 450v caps along with some other things etc. My question is.. in one amp they used 30uf 450v caps instead of 33uf 450v caps. The amp that has the 33uf caps sounds punchier to me, just more alive and breathy. I thought it was mainly a tube differnce but I swapped tubes and the characteristics are the same. I opened up the chassis and found this component difference as the only real difference between the two. Can one actually hear/feel the difference between a 30uf and 33uf in this case? thanks guys

I agree with other poster, did not seem to be more to say!
How are your caps laid out?
140+140 in series for 70uF mains (in between 50w and 100w specs)
33(30)+33(30) in series for screens = 16uF (15uF).
You need to see what the PI cap and the two preamp caps are too. There may be other differences too. Who is the builder? He (she??!) may have used different trannies and specs. Caps may also have a 10 or even 20% tolerance.
