I remember rockstah bringing this video up a few years ago. It's somewhere in the forum. He seemed to think it was a switch possibly and/or some sort of noise issue.

I always thought that someone back stage was switching things for him. that is why he keeps looking behind him to see if they have done it. He does it when he gets that nasty feedback squeak.

Just read the thread...
I can say first hand that Mark had great ears.
Although the camera captured that moment, It still is inconclusive, and a better camera angle would of been ideal.
From what I can make of this angle, I hear & physically see him discretely apply force
with his thumb in a downward motion...

perhaps a good set of eyes can catch something as well
pause it at :56 through 1:00 in between Ed picking the strings you can see the position of the switch, then later in the video at 9:50 you get another good close up shot of the guts (wait for Ed to move his hand from the trem bar). I cant see anything definitive.

I still don't think its anything in that guitar.
I think its just the trem bar knockin around, they are clunky and Ed likes it loose. I don't hear nothing special taking place other than the tone he is known for.
I personally hate the audio to this vid. It sounds horrible. Not chasin this sound here.
But even if it was something internal- what could it be? Coil tap to get balls out regular humbuck then single coil cleans?
