Is there anything decent in the $500 a pair range, or am I dreaming?

Do you have an amp to power them?

I don't believe so.

This month's Mix just came in the mail, and lo and behold- there's a near field monitor shootout.

At $500 there are several models:

Alesis M1 non powered

Emu PM5 powered

Event Alp 5 powered

Yamaha HS50M powered

more at different price points too. Let me know if you want more info

For a little more cash, you could probably buy a used pair of self-powered Mackie 828s. I love these speakers...A friend of mine had them with the mackie Digital 8-bus board....quiet as a church mouse and the clarity of the speakers were phenomenal, at least in his listening space. Good bottom-end, as well.

Here's a recent monitor speaker shootout from Mix' sister publication Electronic Musician. I think all the testees are in the under $800 range.

My vocalist/other guitarist bought himself a set of the KRK v6's. They are really really sweet for the price he paid for them $250/pair on sale, regularly go for $300 or so for the pair. They have a very flat response, and have great punch and really tight bass response.

I forgot to mention, a set of Sony 7506 headphones are nice for double checking things too. At $99, they are a good investment. And many engineers consider them to be a standard.

The Multiface2 arrived yesterday. It's like half the width of a rack space, so I'm gonna have to get or fab a face plate to mount it right. You can plug it in the wall, or a cigarrette lighter.

I bought a Furman Power Conditioner, and a 8 or 10 Slot Road Case, with the angled Top for my Soundcraft Mixer. It's gonna look sharp, and be portable.
I'm assembling it right now, after which I'll try Reinstalling Sonar 4 producer edition, that should work finally work, now that I have the hardware to handle it.

I didn't get the the monitor Speakers yet, I'll have to save up. but I'm getting there. I have to use headphone for now.
Now that I have the rack space I'll be looking for a Power amp
for the Mixer for Live setup. This thing is on wheels, and would be sweet for PA , and for home recording.

Hopefully I have enough rack space after the PCM 70, and premium preamp, to fit all this stuff..

Well back to fun.....

Nice, I look forward to hearing your clips.

I pulled out the old NS-10's today. But I need to get a power amp for them.

And my Furman speaker selector is at the factory being repaired right now.

I called my friend who has my Telefunken pres today too. I'll get those back this week.

How do you like the Telefunken pre.
I almost bought an old one on ebay once.
