Jimi Hendrix' Gear and Mods at West Coast Organ and Amp

His guitar slung across his back, his dusty boots is his cadillac.

does this mean that you have seen the insides of the real 12361? I understand you are probably obliged to not disclose too much about it, but when you say "modifications", could you at least point to the areas that were modified?
Yes, I have nice pictures (for that time frame) of the inside of the amp. I'm sorry, but I can't add anything more about the modifications to this amp than I've already mentioned.
.

No problem, I understand. For the benefit of the thread, here's a link to what you previously said about mods:

If he does not own the amp any more then why not post the pics and lets set the record strait about the inside of the amp with hard evidence

Dave can you tell any thing about this i know its not great resolution but i scanned it from the Marshall book. I think its the 12361 from the Archives web site. It looks like it has your sticker but does not in the archives photo

On a interesting note. The amps here one has a polarity switch and the other has a pluged hole. Also one of the swiches is replaced from one to the other. I wonder if some one took it out and why mod a Hendrix amp

white west coast sticker.

save the image on your desktop, it appears too big for the forum page. can't scroll it horizontaly.

if 45 years passed, hard evidences are unlikely valid in many cases, today.
But if a Hendrix amp comes up with pictures of the inside, and looks like what Dave described, i'd call it a hard evidence. something untouched.

Tone seaker,
The amp may look the same but there are some differences. Note the darker blue HV caps, tube bases, and messy looking voltage selector.
Also, it's pretty clear that the West Coast Organ and Amp Service sticker has been ripped off in the showcase photo, but a fragment of it clings to the chassis. And if you look closely you can easily see the oval shape which is not as discolored
as the rest of the paint on the back. It definitely was one of ours.
Also look for the Drake PT, which has a thicker lamination stack.
The amp in your photo could be the same amp in an earlier condition though. They both appear to have the Drake PT.
I think all the 69's were supposed to have the Dagnall as original equipment. Correct me if I'm wrong on this.

As to why I'm not posting the pictures I have....I gave my word to all parties involved that I would not share the pictures with anyone.

The picture from The History Of Marshall book you posted is a different amp than SL/12361. Most of the West Coast sticker is/was still present.

I don't know if anyone noticed but the cabinet in the picture sure looks similar to this one.

I'm glad to see the stickers on the IOW amps also. This means there is consistency with his amps and not a big unknown as to what was used when or where. I had seen the stickers on the Woodstock ones a long time ago and wondered about them. Now I know. It would be great if Dave could work with George and make some specific Hendrix amps :)

Tazin,
Great observation about the amp bottom. Looking at all the proportionality/spacing of stencils etc. brings one to the conclusion it's the same bottom.
Did you see what I meant on the pic you posted and the one from the archives. They look identical, and the remnants of the West Coast sticker are clearly visible on the chassis, including the oval shape where the paint had been covered.

What about the bottoms to the left in the Woodstock picture, are they new or did we just recover them? The tops don't look as new.

Those are 50 watt stacks used by Billy Cox who loaned Larry Lee his 100 watt Bass stacks. It is hard to believe but I have examined the footage carefully and you can see Cox's cable going to the 50 watt stacks. They were probably brought in for just that gig since there is no stenciling on them. Notice they have the wheels on the cabs and look bran new :)
