I just replaced a set of Antiquities with Jim Wagner's (WCR's) Fillmore set. They are like a hot PAF with a little more mid punch, but not like a Duncan JB. The "Fillmore" set still retains a good high end and clean up nicely with the volume control. They don't seem to lose as much top as other pickups in the 6-9 vol range. Very smooth and articulate. I'm even thinking about getting his "Crossroads" set, which are a more PAF type set. visit www.crcoils.com for clips and info.

By the way, I liked the Antiquities Ok, but they were a little too hollow for me. I wated that Duane/Cream type sound and the clips impressed me. Plus, I have been frustrated with my LP not having enough definition and these really filled the bill. The problem I've had with some PAF type pickups is that they lack low end and mids, but these are great.

I might just put the Duncans in my 335, but I'm really temped to get another of Jim's sets.

Post by Bluesbishop » Wed Oct 06, 2004 9:06 pm

I found a Hell of a deal on Ebay, bought two for $11.99 a piece!! Just got them in today...tried them in my Bassman, and in my Marshall....WOW...I have some new favorite Preamp Tubes

They do seem to have more gain...I'm getting the bassman to breakup around 2-3...the Marshall around 4-5...but they sound warm and wonderful!! Highly recommend these bad boys to all!!

WoW! That's less than my cost on those tubes! Does the seller have the Sylvania 6CA7 copies too?

Sorry George, This guy was a private seller, bought them, didn't fit his needs. The auction was: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... RK:MEWN:IT

I know the seller has a lot of items up for sale, so he may have the tubes you are looking for.

On a postive note, my twin brother works for a wholesaler, ( http://www.avantagewholesale.com ) which means I can generally buy products for 50% retail minus 10%. I'll and and see if he can get these tubes :D

Tubes, GT-6CA7GE and others

Post by Bluesbishop » Sun Oct 10, 2004 11:10 pm

Talked with my twin brother today, and he is checking on pricing for tubes for us. This is the list I gave him for Groove tubes:

GT12AX7M, GT-6L6-CB, GT-6L6GE, GT-KT66-HP, and the GT-6CA7GE.

I know for a fact he is pricing is great on tons of Items, his business caters to the small "mom and pop" stores that find it hard to compete with the GC, and Sam A's of the World.

Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope he can come through!!

He just sent me a free Fuzz face ( I know must guys hate them) and a free guitar autographed by Matt Guitar Murphy of Blues Brothers fame...so I'm already happy!!
