Changing Power Tubes

Post by Bainzy » Fri Feb 17, 2006 3:48 pm

Is it worth changing out the chinese Marshall branded EL34's in my plexi out for JJ EL34L's right now if I'm using a PPIMV (ie. no power tube clipping)?

Also, if I bought the tubes from George would they be tested beforehand or come with a warranty?

If you're really not pushing the power valves into distortion you probably won't see a huge benefit unless you have a severe mismatch or trouble biasing. Most guys will tell you the preamp tubes will more color your sound in this situation.

Most any new tube vendor (at least most reputable ones) will offer some kind of testing and warranty. NOS/used is sometimes a crap-shoot.
