Ok so i sold my stealth but wanted to put up a couple clips that i promised , these were the best brown sounding tones i could get out of the stealth , eventide tape delay smacking the front , little reverb added in audacity recorded with shure sm57 just off axis , stealth 4x12 cabinet

Nice. I had a regular 5150 III 100W but i thought it sounded too nasal. Just like Eddie nowdays. Does the Stealth sound much different to the regular 5150 III? His great early tones was a Marshall not a Peavey or a EVH. So that is what i use. Maybe Eddie should do the same. But he gets more money having his own brand. Maybe a Marshall Signature amp.

I loved my EVH 5150III 50 watter initially but started to miss really good lower gain tones.
For whatever reason even when you back down the gain on blue CH 1 and red CH2 it is just too hairy.
Nothing like a good overdriven vintage marshall.
These EVH amps are great for high gain but that's about it.
there is no vintage brown sounds to be found in any of them IMHO.

I can't say for certain, but I think the 50 watt is voiced closer to the Stealth. So speaking strictly about my 2x12 5150 III combo it's Ed all day. Blue channel gain at 10:00 with a Tone Zone bridge pickup is very 1984ish. It's missing a little EL34 chunk. But it still has a little of it somehow. Sometimes I put it at 9:00 for a little Panama. Power scaling helps take out the 5150 fizz a bit. The blue channel actually doesn't have enough gain to do some old VH songs. I'm The One has more gain than say Jamie's Cryin'. So ITO sounds better with the red channel. Ed had way more fizz and treble in his old tone than people think. 5150 III is an improvement in his tone. Yes he runs too much gain these days. He uses way more gain on the red channel than I do. Somehow it works for him I guess. It's too sloppy for me. Seeing him live though his rhythym tone is damn good.

These clips show you can get a good VH sound out his new 5150 III line. Plenty of people have done it.

I thought you cant drop channel switching amps below 110v?

I wouldn't recommend it, I think it would mess up the popless instant switching biz, which if you follow any of that relay switching stuff, requires some specific regulated power, though small, to function. I mean you can try it. But I don't think it would be a good idea. Maybe it will maybe it won't. Someone will try this though I am sure
Maybe it wouldn't bother it because the power required is so small in comparison to what tube amps run. I guess Mario Marino from Axess Electronics was the man behind the channel switching for the EVH amp-he is reachable if you poke around out there for him on FB or HRI. Very awesome dude. And I am still using his switchers and midi controllers in my rig. Its been since '03 or '05 somewhere in there and they still perform flawlessly to this day.Thats 11+ years And I am sure Friedman for sure could tell you
