Haven't heard Frank in years. Man, that takes me back. I saw him in Seattle back in the early 80's. He put on a good show. Great player. he came over to our table and talked to us after the show. Really nice guy.

As in "Marino"??
Sounds a bit like Johnny Winter tone, as well. And of course, Alvin "Going Home" energy.

Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush-now there's a real trip back in time. He still plays; he played a bar in Windsor, Ontario a few years ago to a packed house. I think he's originally from Montreal. He does one-off gigs whenever the money's right.

If you like that, check out Frank's site/fan site where he interacts with the users. He has a flash radio with all the tracks of all his albums up there as well...I haven't heard some of that stuff in like 20 yrs!

Good stuff but, I'm still partial to Jimi's version. Too many notes after a while and Jimi does that kick ass horse whinny at the end, his teeth, behind the back, wah wah on treble bite. Much more artistic to me. IMO.

I like Frank's Purple Haze cover on the old live album....the very end when he does the whammy dive bombs and busts into the wah soloing.....but yeah...I can only take all those guys - Pat Travers, Frank Marino, and Robin Trower - in short doses...too much of that "70s phase as my tone, song as an excuse for soloing" thing gets on my nerves after awhile. At least Hendrix varied it up.

As many years as Frank opened shows with his ability.....

......you know he must've made the headliners
more nervous than a quadraplegic selling cookware to a starving cannibal!!!!!!
Let's get going, 'cause there's too much music, too little time!!!!

No shit, Shane. I got turned on to "Parchman Farm" and "Can't Judge a Book" years ago and it's still "holy shit" guitar playing. Mark, if you have never heard Jim McCarty and his Scrambler find it. You will not be disappointed. And to think, Bogert and Appice only did Cactus because BBA got put on hold due to Beck's car accident.
