Cream Alnico with G12M
So I have been trying to decide what speakers to get. I definately want an cream alnico, but was wondering if a g12m would pair well with it? Has anyone tried this combo? Thanks, any help is appreciated!

British Dream MkII (has a plexi and ac channel)
Fender Starcaster with Mojotone Widerange Humbuckers
Half open half closed back cabinet (greenback in closed alnico in open)
I'm looking to get a good chimey tone from the ac and a bright punchy plexi that doesn't lack in mids. I play a lot of Rush and AC/DC.

Re: Cream Alnico with G12M
In that case your suggestion is an excellent one.
The push of the greenback in closed cab will be good and the airiness of the alnico with open cab to fill the room.
You will find the alnico will slightly overpower the Greenback due to the much higher sensitivity/efficiency of the Alnico so consider a similarly efficient Greenback type speaker?

That's what I was worried about. Maybe a g12h30? Same sensitivity and 5 more watts. I was also thinking about a g12h30 anniversary.

Re: Cream Alnico with G12M
I have tried most of these speakers over the years.
I did not keep the Anniversary. I had some G12H Heritages that took forever to break in (fabric softener, all the tricks but a couple of 3 hour gigs with the cab hooked up as a bass slave did the trick although I sold the cab with them in)
My favourite speakers at the moment are the quad of G12H30 75Hz (pulsonic cones) in a 69 cab. (for reference I have a 68 pinstripe A with G12M20s, bw A cab with G12M25 55Hz, early 70s Orange 4x12 with Fanes, a Vox 2x12 closed back with Goodman Red label 50s, Orange 2x12 with V30s, Vox open cab with blues. A 2x12 open back with early 60s Alnicos. I have kept a set of G12M25 75Hz for a resto, two G12-65s and two Celestion Golds - all too good to pass on.
I wonder if a V30 (used and broken in) might work well or a 65w Cream back?

Wow, you've got quite the collection of speakers! I wondered about v30's, but they might be too harsh. And the creamback seemed too dark. Is 98db vs 100db sensitivity really that big of a difference?

Yes, big difference (remember dB is log scale)LerxstOmega wrote: ↑Thu Aug 24, 2017 11:20 amWow, you've got quite the collection of speakers! I wondered about v30's, but they might be too harsh. And the creamback seemed too dark. Is 98db vs 100db sensitivity really that big of a difference?

Re: Cream Alnico with G12M
Gotcha, so it's exponential. Have you ever use a Scumback 75?

Re: Cream Alnico with G12M
No, I only have one Scumback, a G12H30 equivalent (an early one from the Webber years I think) sounds ok but not as good as my pre-rolas but it is in an 18w TMBEF86 combo so probably not really broken in.
