I dont know but the volume jump is minimal but the overdrive is huge. you can trim it with a 50k to put it where you want but I leave it out. It seems perfect as is. Its smooth but with a slight fuzz face attitude. Whos was Alembec, wheres he now. what doe he do? ? / wonder
vids.

Re: Jose Arredondo high gain mod. Myth or Reality
I have one of Jose's modded amps up in the SF Bay area. It was found in an abandoned analog studio. I am undergoing a documentary about it.

I'll be doing a feature story on an upcoming episode about Jose and the Marshall that has been uncovered in there.
If anyone has any information, please let me know!

Have any of you guys done a mod similar to this we’re you add a extra tube and it’s on a volume pot so you can dial in how much extra you want to push the amp I want to build something like this in a 50plexi head

Just do a google search for "adding an extra gain stage to Marshall plexi or JCM 800". You can find lots of info and layouts available that way. Some sound great and others not so much. Every amp is different so you may need to experiment with a few component values to dial things in the way you like. You can also add the extra stage in different places in the preamp. This also has a huge effect on the sound.

Ok I think I’m going to probably go the JCM 800 clone way because in this kit there is a master volume I just want to make it special and mod it some way I see some good YouTube videos on this mod we’re you add a extra pre amp tube and you can dial in how much it is in the circuit so I hat nicer than a one wire mod on a 1987 like I’m thinking about but I just want to have a hodrodded Marshall and my JTM 45/50 that I made a few years ago that you helped me get going Thanks again I’m getting ready to build again

One of our members has some nice layouts on his sight that you may want to check out. The Jubilee does a great high gain sound and I believe there is also a switchable 1987/2204 layout.

Also check out the Marshall section over at the "ampgarage" forum. If you scroll through the pages you can find some nice layouts with extra gain stages.

here's a new take on the jose that has the same gain as the ordinary 320k, 2n2, 68k/68k divider:
- k: 2k7/.68uf
- A: 150k (sic) into 5n6 cap and 56k to ground, no voltage divider.
