Hi guys, had you seen the original Marshall JMP 1959 #38 modded by Frank Levi for sale on Reverb?
it was sold

Living in Europe it was impossible for me to buy it, it was only pick up, so I asked for photos of the inside but I didn't receive any answers..

Hi, sorry for the late reply (but please respond whenever you see this, no matter how much time has passed -no, not kidding). Unfortunately Reverb refuses to show me the listing, it just says "That listing sold. Check out the similar listings below.". And when I try to filter for Marshall amps via the "sold" filter, I can't find it. Do you know if I can get around that somehow? Perhaps if I made an account (don't know if you have one there)? Did you keep any pics of the listing, maybe?

Oh and by the way that #38 isn't a typo, right?...

#38 existed and of course like the 39 36 34, this one was also owned by SIR Marshall, of which Caswell first and Levi later, were 'simple' employees

Hi, yes I'm well aware, was just double-checking since I couldn't open the listing (issue rectified since, lol -but thanks for going thru the trouble to put those pics up!). In fact, I'm pretty sure that 1. there's a schematic for this exact amp right here (bottom of page -really makes me wonder how this amp, obviously still in SIR ownership back then but not in use, ended up in...Georgetown, Ohio(?), in a private seller's hands): https://web.archive.org/web/20060325014 ... 41274264/0 , and 2. based on some people who'd been in touch with Frank Levi (such as bennyx, his post is somewhere on previous pages here), this being a "Mk7" mod (the "holy grail" series was Mk5, IIRC), it should not be the same sound as the AFD/UYI type mods. Which in all likelihood makes this a cool find, but "expensive by association" only, and the seller description misleading...though judging by how many people were utterly convinced they had "the sound" with the Caswell mod, only for the Levi/#34 mod variations to emerge later, I'm sure the buyer is himself utterly convinced he has "the toans"...or about to convince other people his "AFD-inspired clone" does...

On a tangential note, the few people ever associated with SIR and those amps are leaving us at an alarming rate...*almost* everyone I've tried getting in touch with, including the OP on the Hoffman Amps thread, are long gone...and most of them too young...
