Im mostly refering to what is a- mixer, preamp, AD converter, Firewire I/O, phantom power, router, etc.. but no tracking. That would be in the PC or Mac on your software. Thats how the Digi002 mixer works. If I had over $2k for something like that Id get it. The line tascam has out is much more realistic for most of us herelike the 1884 and 1082 or 1804.

Monitors are the worst for noise. The only thing I can think in your case is that they make footswitches that will connect somehow and work with your DAW that you can use to start and stop recording so you can do it from the other side of the room. Their very common but you dont really see them in rags and articles.
You're talking about a remote control. Yes those are nice. I haven't seen the floor model ones in a while. Onlye the full on ones on a stand. But then again I haven't been looking lately.

MightyMike, I have the same problem using humbuckers and the monitor. I guess it's some sort of electromagnetic field the monitor gives off(remembers the old mother saying that TV will rot your brain). As far as extra noise is concerned. When I record guitar, I always put the amp in another room and then the cabinet in a closet if I can and run a mike to the computer. You also have to make sure the computer is on a different circuit as the amp. I also make sure that I leave enough lead in time after hitting the space bar(usually acts as record/play control) to cut out any extra noise before I start playing/recording.

Ya there's something about monitors. Even a TV monitor does the same thing.

CRT monitors use high voltages and emit ions and xrays which interfere with anything and they have a magnetic field. Theyre tubes! If you really want to end that get yourself a flat screen monitor. LCDs are very low voltage low wattage and dont have any of the electrical properties of tubes or magnetism. I dont know if it would be totally silent but you wont have a huge buzz even with single coils. Maybe some LCD users can comment?

There are many Multitrack recorders with the Hard drive for under 1000, but how sweet would it be to own this?

Am I pissing up a rope, or would this be great for live mix recording?

I got dual LCD's to use for my recording computer. Unfortunately the computer itself seems to be just as big a source of noise as the CRT monitors, the noise reduction was minimal. Probably need to find a way to put the tower in a "shielded" enclosure of some kind to cut down the magnetic noise of hard drives, etc. but that sounds like a bad option for tower ventilation. I have a KVM switch that may help me locate the tower further away from the instrument I'm trying to record in my next house -- maybe I can even get the tower in a different room entirely. The age of the wiring in your house may escalate all these noise problems too, although my current room was wired by my dad and I so I at least know that these two circuit legs are grounded properly.

Keep the computer away from the amps and guitars. Like in another room on a different circuit. If you are recording by yourself and laying tracks hit "record" then walk to the other room. When you are done, walk back then edit out the blank space. That will kill a lot of noise interference.

The good thing about that is theres no need for the computer itself to be close. If possible you can have it far away.
