Pat Quinn will be fired when the Maple Laughs (or is it Make Be Leafs) miss the playoffs (5 straight losses now).

Another loss to Ottawa ....

I wouldn't be surprised if Pat Quinn wanted to go. He's been a big part of that team for a while - recall GM & Head Coach.

He did coach Canada to Olympic gold in '02 so he's obviously not a bad coach; and Sundin captained the Swedes to gold last week, so there's no question about the brass of the organisation....

But I'm wondering if NHL hockey has gone all-out corporate with salary caps and it's just all too much for an old-schooler like our Pat. Toronto was one of the largest grossing teams in the league and could pretty much afford any player up until the cap and now they have to build a team on paper before ice.

The whole Canadian team was NHL and they're all capped, so I'm curious if that affects their motivation any. Same with USA - surprising defeat there as well.

The European teams had plenty of capped NHL stock, but what was it that drove them to beat the crap out of the rest? I mean come on - Switzerland?

Dumfounded.

Indeed.

Who in the NHL today has a really good nickname?
(and not simply a play on their actual name...)
