Mark,
I keep bouncing between the 002 and the 002r with a Command 8 surface. I really don't have any big reasons for liking one over the other except that I could get the rack first and add the surface later. I guess I feel if I go 002 I'm locked in but I guess it's not much different then if the I/O is in the board or the rack. Are you aware of any performance differences? What's your take?
Thanks

for me i was in the same postition. i went with the rack thinking i could ad the console later. but i have no need for it.
now if i was recording as my gig and recoirding many instruments live in real time i would want it. other than that i dont see a reason for it. this doenst mean you would even need it in thsi application. it woudl just make somethings easier. but again knowing protools yous et up your session and get by. grouping channels etc. but for nowi have everything i need on the computer monitor.
but this means nothing if you find out the console has any more options or something i just dont know about. i havent researched it cause like i said i have no need.

Thanks for the feedback, Mark. That's what I keep coming back to. I talked to the guys at Sweetwater and they say there's not much difference in hardware (I/O and such). A big benefit they say is that with the rack you can run a snake out the back and keep your desk surface clear of all the cables. Guess that makes some sense but only if you're doing multi channels as you said.
