Cleaning toggle switch on Les Paul

Post by thunder970 » Wed Nov 17, 2004 8:26 am

I Have both cleaners, with and without oil. I have contact cleaner without oil and I have tuner cleaner with oil. Which do I use on the toggle switch? And do I just shoot it in by the pole from the top or take the back off and clean it from behind? Thanks.

For contacts on this type of switch you can also use a dollar bill. Fold it up so it fits in the switch rout, put it between the contacts, set the switch to close the contacts and gently work it back and forth. For some reason the paper US money is made of is great for cleaning contacts, so are business cards.
Unfortunately the switch on my Les Paul sure seems to need a LOT of cleaning. Seems like I gotta do this three or four times a year, don't know why so often.

Cool tips flames.

If you are going to use the spray cleaner I would use the NON oil cleaner. The oil stuff will just attract more dust and dirt.

I did the dollar bill trick and it worked. those switches are delicate little boogers. they look actually cheap made though. I really couldn't get it in good, it was a tight fit. But the results were the same............
BTW I have a pretty old guitar cable that I dont really trust anymore. Do the planet waves and monster cable really make a big difference in tone as all the hype? george do you make cables?

Hey what is the deal with Blue Shower being sold to the public? All of the local electronics shops stopped selling it OTC and posted some flyer where it would be that has some new federal legislation on Blue Shower and a couple of other name brand contact cleaners being pulled from OTC sales due to some environmental issues? The stores are now requiring buyers to show a Tax Id certificate with the sale and will only sell the cleaners by the case.

That's pretty crazy. At least they are concerned about emissions. I guess i'll keep using the old Mopar contact cleaner.
