Can I get some more help from the computer experts here?

Im having trouble updating the display driver in the ancient nvidia tnt2/64 card Im using. I just got a nice WS 19" LCD but it wants the 1440x900 resolution and I dont know how to update the driver with that resolution or find one that works and has that resolution.

Soon enough Im sure but just getting the 1440x900 working period is a start. My typical 1280x1024 looks like shit. The detail is just blurred. I guess its stretched

Hopefully, it'll work but, yeah bro, definitely time to upgrade yer card...they're pretty cheap. I use an MSI nvidia TI4200 128MB which you can probably get from Newegg cheap...I like it because I also do 3D work and with the the old TI4200, you can "softquadro" or patch the drivers...basically unlock the features that are only available in their highend 3D cards...at a 1/3 the price.

Not being a Windoze user you have to take this for what it is:

You have to start in Failsafe mode, and uninstall the old drivers, restart it, it will use the generic vga driver, and install the new driver. Or so I´ve been told...

YMMV, proceed with caution !
I do have a certification on Windows, but I never use it...

For some strange reason Im unable to update the driver. It keeps saying hardware not recognized and it definitely should work with that card. I already uninstalled the current driver and had the default display when I installed the updated driver but no dice. I guess I should upgrade. Any other good suggestions? Id like to see the difference a DVI connection makes anyway. I just didnt expect the extra $50 expense after spending so much on a monitor. I figured Id upgrade the driver and that would be it. If anyone can help with what I got in the meantime Id greatly appreciate it.

Our Windows guys have´nt heard of an alternative driver for this card.

Not to stray off topic or hijack the thread, but I think it is utter bullshit that a monitor requires you to upgrade your hardware. IMO this is a ploy between the monitor manufacturers as well as the graphics cards companies. You spend several hundred dollars on a monitor and it doesn't work with your system? What does it do? 3D graphics without having to wear the glasses? Sorry Dan, I feel your pain on this one.

I dont know that I agree on this one specific problem nec. Any other time yeah. The thing is its a widescreen 19" monitor and any normal resolution has to be stretched to fit the wide aspect. The 1440x900 is specificaly for a 16:10 aspect. Something thats pretty new with PC monitors. Its LCD which is really made to be used with a digital connection anyway and Im using an analog. The card is really old and I think the main problem is with all the new products that came after it Nvidia just havent kept with updates. By this time it is a really old card which can barely handle the job. It never could watch streaming videos without being a bit chopy. I dont play games really but whenever I did it couldnt handle it.

Ill try that update one more time and keep my fingers crossed. In the mean time I think I might as well find something decent. 256MB etc... I dont want to have this problem again from now untill I get a new PC.

Ahh.. It still says it cant find any drivers that are compatible with my hardware. Time for an upgrade. Thanks anyway Mac.

When you install the new drivers are you letting windows search for them or are you manually installing them from a specific directory? Try doing it manually if you haven't, yet. Also, even though you uninstall your video driver, you'll find you may still have them sitting in the win32 directory as well as an .inf file (open in text editor) that lists nvidia in it. Sometimes, windows will look for the drivers there and automatically load them even when trying to install a new driver. As it's an old card, you'd be better off updating it anyway.

IM just gonna go ahead and get a new one when I can. Theyre not much but Im strapped this month and I just bought that LCD. Like I said this card is slow, cant handle the occassional game and streaming video, and I want to use the digital out. Ill try what you said in the meantime though. I am manually installing them but Ill check the Win32 directory for that file. Would that cause a hardware compatibility issue?

Well, I just know based on my own experience of removing drivers recently. In windows32, look for files that start with nv and check through the inf files. It's just the surest way to be sure the drivers are out of the system so XP doesn't see them.
