Processed GNX tone....

Post by NY Chief » Thu Jul 06, 2006 1:07 pm

Jammed with a guy last night that dared bring a GNX processor and a Blues Jr into my music room. I thought those things were supposed sound decent but he was getting the WORST f'n tone I ever heard. I didn't say anything out of courtesy but, shit... I plugged him into my 20watt Lead Bass RI and 2-12 pre Rola cab w/ echoplex and a tube sreamer to see if he understood the difference and he didn't seem to get it. The presets with reverb on the GNX sucked.... :x

I use a rack processor thru the PA sometimes when space is an issue and it's all in how you set it up. It can sound really bad or it can sound fairly decent. Did he use the stock patches or did he create his own? I heard a GNX at a clinic and thought it sounded great.
Of course if he didn't get it after plugging into some of your gear then maybe he truly doesn't know what good tone is. It's sad but true with some guys.
I remember doing an outdoor gig with another guitar player once who brought a dual rectum frier and had the most godawful tone I think I've ever heard. Buzzy, thin, no note articulation. After the first set I had a headache. After the second set I wanted to strangle him with his guitar cord. I played thru the amp on a break and tried to show him that you could get good tone out of that amp, he just nodded and went right back to how he had it.
That was a long afternoon.

Never settle for an amp thats smaller then you are.
