Well, this was a short-lived gig for sure!!!!

After the gig tonight the boss said it wasn't working out........said my abilities are vast, but "it's just not honky tonk" :D ....and that he couldn't handle breaking in two new guys at once (new drummer hired in same time I did)....

I don't know what he was expecting....

I told him straight up front I'd never really played country before, but was willing to learn.

Soooo four rehersals (2 without half the band even showing), and four nights playing later, I'm canned (in a very nice way I might add).....

Geez, the guy wouldn't even give me copies of the songs to work on (he had them, just wouldn't give 'em over, said it never worked)

He's definitely getting a better guitarist than me for the genre, he's rehiring the guy who was his guitarist for 6-7 years (a monster player who's speciality's definitely country pickin')......

Oh well....been there, done that......

Now back to the ROCK!!!!!!!!
Let's get going, 'cause there's too much music, too little time!!!!

So let me get this straight....
The "Boss" is the bar owner and he makes his own band that He's not in
.. He tells them what tunes to play and hires and fires the Musicians...
:?

Sounds like in the Blues Brothers movie, the country bar where the good ol' boys are supposed to play.At least you didn't have chicken wire in front of the stage, with bottles thrown at you!
Sounds familiar with the bar owner calling the shots musically!

Right on target with everything, except he's in the band as well
(although you sure wouldn't wanna hear him by himself)!!!!!!!

The guy he's replacing me with is a great country style guitarist (think Vince Gill, Johnny Hiland, Hellcasters) who left when he got married.
Six months later he's getting a divorce and he's back in the band......

I really wonder though....he's the one who sat in the weekend before I started....
why didn't he say he wanted it before now??????

Oh well, not my prob. anymore.

Have always had the policy to never go back with a band that's fired me. Never been much of an issue, as it's now happened a grand total of twice (didn't look 'rock n roll' enough for another group that folded 2 months later). Just doesn't seem like a good idea (esp. in this situation)......

I'd be more than glad to do a sit in some night/weekend if there in a spot, but that's about it.......

I should've known it wouldn't work when he told me he quit using tube amps years ago because tubes wear out

BTW, I just had my H & K retubed with 6550s (=C=) following a suggestion by Trampy. Can't wait to try it out!!!!!!!!!!

Well I'll be a suck-egg mule! Sorry to see it didn't work out.

There's quite a few C&W bars around my area. My mom's got this one that she likes to hang out in and she keeps telling me to go audition for the house band [they want to add a second guitar player ] but I'm in the debating stages right now.
