Yep been there.........still dealing with that.
Bunch of friggen BS I practice everyday and take music seriously. And it pisses me off that others seem to be more about the girls and free draft.

Evan potheads (well allot of them anyways) tend to be in there own world when they play stoned. Its a group effort and as I'm steadily learning, you need to be concentrating at all times.Dynamics, working the mic for vocal harmonies,leads...do they fit or do they sound like Yngwie over a 1,4,5, propper volume/touch for the song

I used to drink with my band mates and drank allot, but it seems noone figured out that the gig was done and my guitar put away befor the first beer got cracked.

Bands are a PITA nobody ever seems to be on the same page.Being the "take no shit boss"type just makes ya loss members one after another but dealing with it just makes matters progressively get worse, who knows...................

You got free drafts at the gig?? No gig I ever played gave away drinks other than Coke. Probably why we stayed sober enough to play, despite the best efforts of the drummer's friend Kevin that threw shots at us like darts at the dartboard.
Personally I just won't drink and play anymore. I remember getting crocked at our senior keg in high school, I was too drunk to play but not drunk enough to forget how much ass my playing blew.

Next time you think you sound good after doing a bunch of booze, go to a karaoke bar! Alcohol and microphones don't mix.

I look for the drunkest guys I can find to play with, makes me sound like a virtuoso in comparison.

Just kidding, if you are a serious player it is no fun, unless you are also a drunk.

I've been on both sides of it. Thankfully, I've been sober for over 15 years now.

But goddamn it, did I really look that stupid when it was me being the drunk bandmember???

I always tell people that what they do w/their time when I'm not around is none of my business, but when we're trying to make music, drinking to excess can hurt that.

+1 Michael (18 yrs. here).

Best thing that ever happened to me, personally and musically.

Band I was in a couple of years ago (Bravo 66): bass player constantly drunk, drummer's bipolar and a stoner, when the lead singer wasn't drunk he was constantly starting some kinda drama somewhere (and the fucker sang EVERYTHING flat to boot)!!!!!

The bass player was the best example though. He owned all the PA, didn't know how to hook up any of it (relied on me to do it all until I threw down the gauntlet and we hired a soundman)..........

and would be so bombed during gigs that he would play notes one fret off (on an eighth note ride no less) and then would take 5-10+ sec. to notice & correct!!!!!!!
Let's get going, 'cause there's too much music, too little time!!!!

I dont think I paid for a drink from the time I graduated HS to the time I stopped playing regularly about 1-2 years ago. The places that gave you tokens or slips or cups for a few drinks, or the select few that didnt give you anything at all, sometimes we would stop playing there just because of that. Mostly they were small bars so who cares, right. Then there were other good, big places that did the full spread in the green room. Not too many of them but it was nice. But many stocked the fridge with a good selection of beer and Red Bull and water. Sometimes whatever you requested. But there were some places were I played regularly were the bartenders would have triples waiting for you when you got off stage and there were shots galore on stage. I admit I got pretty drunk many times but never to the point were I couldnt play the gig. Maybe Id miss a riff or make a few more mistakes but I think the lack of any of those usual things that can block your feeling secure on stage make you play better as long as your not completely bombed makes up for it. Even if your a bit more sloppy. Shit I think its worse playing clean and tight ass sounding. Im not much of a drinker these days but I think even now a good double before each set will help loosen me up. Ill admit that.

If there was anything truly bad that came of me getting a bit too drunk at gigs its that afterwards Id be totaly miserable, completely obsessed and absorbed on a single mistake and thinking of quiting. The the next day I was like 'ahhh, maybe Ill still play'. Well, that and the fact that I bobbed for apples plenty of times on long rides home at 4 in the morning. I actually caught myself on the cusp of sleep and drifting off the road more then once.

It was always open bar at the places I played. I'm sure the open bar didn't extend to expesive drinks like courvoisier. I'd drink a well drink or a draft beer sometimes, but 99% of the time I just drank Coke, until after the gig

After the gig was a different story. They'd keep the bar open for us and a few others, and we'd drink for free (If we wanted to). Good thing for them (and me) I wasn't an alcholic.

Hey Awango Tango,
Americans aren't all the same.
They're not all aggressive like me :P

Part of the forming of our country was on the principle of not getting involved in foriegn entanglements, and your probably going to see us try get back to those roots, if the most recent election is any indictator.

Then when other countries start getting attacked, you know who these people are going to ask for help. THE AGGRESSIVE USA! Then if we don't help, we'll be hated for not being aggressive enough. We're already being getting blamed for not saving Dafur.

We're damned if we do, damned if we don't.

I'm not all against drinking, but there has to be a limit... I mean, one has got a responsability towards the audience, and towards the ones you play with... I'm ONE PART of a number of members in a band ( or what ever )... The most important thing ( to me ) is to hear and addapt to what the others are doing in a band... And how easy is that, when someone loaded or wasted...
Like I said, a beer or two never heart anyone, but when someone gets drunk to the point of where he or she can't figure out where the hell they are... than it's WAY out of line... :!:

I agree with Billybatz, a beer between sets or a shot or two is just right, if you like to drink that is.

At one point I told our drummer that the next person to be intoxicated on stage would be fired on the spot. The next gig guess who had a few to many  ? He kept saying into the mic that tonight was going to be my last night, etc...
I don't give him such a hard time anymore but we both agreed to reign it in a little.
I rarely drink at all anymore. It's more of a case of the booze not getting along with me anymore. I drink one beer and feel a little queezy.
