Post by stoo » Sat Dec 02, 2006 7:09 pm

I had a Kahler tailpiece put on in the 80's but now I decided to get rid of itImage

But I had that bigass hole in the body so off to the guitar guy. and this is what she looks like now.

When I play on weekends, I see 20 year olds who probably play rap in their
cars, but their girlfriends dance to Mustang Sally.

Looks good, but I would have gone with a Gibson ABR-1 bridge (or the correct Gibson Nashville TOM bridge). Otherwise I'd say a nice improvement.

I can totally understand that - I've made the same choice myself to be correct. But I also changed a '61 SG RI to ABR-2 because I thought that by increasing the surface area contacting the wood, it can transfer more tone. I also upgraded that one to TonePros hardware for the same reason.

Vera, Vera nice!!! I have a deluxe that I bought from ebay about 2 years ago, the kid had it routed (very badly I might add) for a Kahler. Only he tried mounting a flat body mount Kahler on it. I had the corret style Gibson/Kahler that I got from an 84 explorer, so I bought the guitar cheap, used for awhile and I've been tossing around in my head to do the same exact thing. Great job!!! You helped make up my mind!!!

When the guy routed the body for the humbuckers he enlarged the neck hole towards the bridge. no where else to go..and he also enlarged the bridge hole towards the bridge too! I think he shopuld have enlarged it towards the neck. So I think the bridge pup sits closer to the bridge now compared to a factory LP. Spend some time with this route job. The mini HBs are quite wide pole to pole.
