 It's kind of amusing... we sometimes do contracting work for a certain "Foundation" and we have to sign a non-disclosure agreement and can't mention any names, even though everyone knows whose foundation it is, not that it matters to anybody anyway.

Did they give you a complimentary copy of Vistah?

I agree that Lynch likes/listens to Malmsteen. I also think that after the initial smoke settled after Malmsteen hit, that Lynch looked back to some old Scorpions albums that he had already listened to("Virgin Killer", "Taken by Force", "Tokyo Tapes") and saw that those notes/tonalities had already been realized. Uli Roth's "Earthquake" and "FireWind" albums furthered this movement. Diminished, harmonic minor, phrygian, 5 and 6 string sweeps, string skipping, odd koto type licks etc. He also got very similar tones as Malmsteen('71 Super Tremelo, 3 bolt strats) I well understand Yngwie's origionality and contribution, but looking back I see that he influenced my speed "technique" as opposed to musicality, more than anything else. Roth, to me, was a little more "inspired" musically. So in a way, Lynch was just doing his take on Blackmore/Roth, with a little help/kick in the ass from Malmsteen. Also, Lynch's sound on those clips only sounded decent to me. Too much effects going on. I liked his more simple/pure Superlead/25 loaded cab and echoplex tone he had early on("Breakin The Chains" album). Not as much sustain, but alot more tone. I love Malmsteen, dont get me wrong, his speed and technique influenced all who have heard it. He has stayed in one spot musically though, sorta like the AC/DC of melodic shred metal.

Tone Slinger,Yngwie's moto is,if it ain't broke, don't fix it..that's why he is Yngwie,no one does it better, lots of us like him in the same vein repeatedly and there is no harm in that.He even admits his rack and effects are from the dinosaur era,he is still the maestro at what he does, melody, shred, burning, acoustic melodies, you name it.Your AC/DC comparision is valid,no one expects them to come out with a blues,or unplugged album,do they?

Ihave been sent some UFO live bootleg CD's and I must say I have a newfound admiration for Micheal Schenker,he rocks, plays killer rhythm guitar, apropriate, melodic leads, and only having Built To Destroy by MSG in my collection before,me like a lot.Great work Micheal Schenker and UFO are, the bomb!!!

No Offense, but I've heard other clips from Lynch that are in the Neo Classical vein, that put this sound clip to shame. He's much better than this clip, and his orginal stuff is great too.

UFO Rocks.
Lights out Live is a classic . Love that lead tone.

Believe me, I really love and appreciate Malmsteen's playing. He is the one who made me develop my chops in the mid to late 80's to a point that "technique" was no longer the goal (time, feel, dynamic etc, took precedence for me there after) I just wished that Malmsteen could have colaberated a bit more with at least one other musician. The song/platform is so part and parcel to great playing/music. Phil Mogg and Michael Schenker wrote some great songs, that inspired great guitar solo's. David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen did the same. In both of those examples the 2 didnt really like or get along with one another. That is why I think that Malmsteen has had a hard time working and sharing creativity with others. Yngwie's first three albums were great, they were fresh and needed in the world of guitar. I also thought the Joe Lynn Turner album was a good stab at commerciality, with a great sound/production. This is at the point that I stopped listening to Malmsteen(new stuff that is) I have since,2005, gotten back into Malmsteen. Schenker has had a similar problem over the years as well, though alot of his hooks/melodies still have that awesome effect on the listener. I wish Malmsteen would hook back up with the Johansens and De Soto, and let that line up marinate for a while. I'm sure great music would happen.

You all make excellent points,I am somewhat disappointed in Yngwie's current line up.George Lynch is obviously a very technically proficient player,or there wouldn't be so much attention paid to him.
I have decided to be more understanding in my posting and not so immediately critical,or have knee jerk reaction posts, that I regret later.
I am severely dissapointed at the moment with the whole Malmsteen management/fan club, ect.Everything they do is so PC,and that's not what rock and roll is about, imo.
I agree,it wouldn't be such a regression for Yngwie to use his old singers or players, and if he hadn't burned so many bridges in the past, that might have occured sooner. When I saw his band in '05 for the first time,I was dissapointed in the singer, bassist.Yngwie may have total control over all aspects at the moment, but that is a double edged sword. No one dares to tell him that anything sucks, except his wife, apparently, according to him!
He wouldn't be compromised or any less brilliant,if he had a producer to oversee the projects. His constant slamming of Oddysey, which is brilliant imo, always upsets me,as that band was great. When Yngwie recorded Inspiration in 1996,JLT came back to sing with him again.Yngwie dosen't want any singers detracting from his 'show',which is wrong, but the whole maestro approach, which he is,but unfortunately a diva like mentality arises from that.Yng says he likes some current bands, and Amy Lee as a vocalist,I would love to hear him in a 'crossover',project so many of the younger kids would get to hear him, just as Santana did, although Santana's albums, imo, pretty much have him as a later day Jimmy Page,in on the sessions, and that's it.
I very often close my ears off to similar guitarists in the same vein,to concentrate on the one I am studying,as in the case of Malmsteen.
I am trying to broaden my horizons again ,and the live UFO tapes, blew me away, what a great rock tone, the 50 watts really powerfull in their driving intensity.
In a nutshell,I enjoy my coversations here on this forum and need to act a little more with humility, rather than the confrontational approach, which is not what I am really like,if I was personally more contented in my own life,it would reflect in my interactions here,I think,so to all I have pissed off, sorry, thanks for hanging in with me,all you guys are great!

I love your posts Dave, you are a very knowledgable dude. You have a broad interest span and do not mind to critique every detail that others might post here. I really like that.

Thanks guys for your kind words,I am passionate about music and amps and guitars. This has been the core center of my life since I was a 9 year old!The Metro forum is my extended family,if you will and I always want to have a positive, learning experience here, not dreading what the next post will be and being in the defensive posture, which turns you off to listening without prejudice, which would be an ideal state we could all strive for!
I have learned so much further information about amplifiers in particular,to the component level, where before I never got involved that closely,as I was buying original Marshalls and knew the circuits visually and could follow the circuit diagrams, but didn't work on em as I sort of left the high voltage stuff to techs, back in the day.
I can't begin to express what a great feeling it is to be able to be welcomed into such a knowledgable, friendly and state of the art technical community! It is my internet home away from home,I remember when the site was down, and i was jonsing for some contact!
And for me to become so much more actively involved in a music/equipment based community, has inspired me in my own playing and learning recording processes and to get deeeply into my computer and access all the great tools the internet provides for us players.
Being critical of things is one thing, but I try to offer up another way or solution,to improve things.Criticism, for it's own sake is pointless.
Again thanks to all here who have welcomed me and made me feel at home, and I look forward to a great future in this most excellent cyber-world that George has greated for us :D :D
